Bring Love to Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi

Bring Love to Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi How many people can you serve from a pot of soup made out of a cup of beans -- a family of four? No, in Mozambique, devastated by Cyclone Idai, the pot of soup was served to 44 people. And that was their only meal of the day. Idai has brought devastated three African countries and people are struggling to survive.

Cyclone Idai is one of the worst natural disasters to have affected Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi over the past 20 years. It caused catastrophic damage, flooded over 2,300 square kilometers, left more than 700 people dead and affected over one million people. Upon hearing the news, Tzu Chi volunteers in southern Africa and Taiwan have mobilized, and begun relief work.

Our Route
From Taiwan to Southern Africa: Tzu Chi is sending rice, and preparing emergency relief funds and eco-friendly blankets. At the same time, they need the love and blessings of all of us.

From South Africa to Blantyre, Malawi: distributing corn powder, and building 70 brick houses.

From Zimbabwe’s Harare to Chimanimani: providing bread and clean water; and later giving hot meals, blankets, mosquito nets, and water purification tablets.

From Mozambique’s Maputo to Beira and outlying neighborhoods: providing food, blankets, mosquito nets, medicines and medical services.

Our Action
Emergency food supply: providing rice and corn powder to nearly 10,000 families. Each household needs about NTD$1,000 (US$32.39).

- Emergency disease prevention: providing over 10,000 bottles of water purification tablets, and 100,000 mosquito nets.
- Emergency livelihood supplies: provide blankets and emergency livelihood supplies.
- Education program: providing schools supplies, and evaluate how to rebuild damaged school buildings.
- Long term housing: house rebuilding, portable toilets, digging of wells
- Emergency medical support: providing needed medicines.
