“The Global Buddha’s Birthday Ceremony for 2022 begins.” On May 8, 2022, Da Ai TV was broadcasting live to the world, and nearly 40,000 people watched the ceremony online.

That day marked a triple celebration -- Buddha's Birthday, Mother's Day, and Tzu Chi Day. The day coincided with the Buddha's birthday on April 8 in the lunar calendar. To mark the importance of the three events on the same day, Tzu Chi held a global bathing Buddha ceremony, both at the Jing Si Abode in Hualien and the Linji Huguo Chan Temple in Taipei. Both cultivation grounds were so solemn!

At the same time, thanks to Da Ai TV podcasts with many Tzu Chi volunteers taking part around the world, 48 countries and regions on five continents joined to express piously their gratitude to the Buddha.

Gratitude for the Buddha, our parents, and all sentient beings

Over 2,500 years ago, the Buddha was born into the world. He gave all living beings a correct and glorious path, and told us the right path to take in this world.
At the Linji Huguo Chan Temple, Master Mingguang (明光法師) said: “We gather here to show our gratitude to the Buddha for teaching us, to our parents for raising us, and to living beings for helping us.”

Master Cheng Yen, founder of Tzu Chi, said: “Everyone is of one heart as we harbor a heart of gratitude in thanking our parents for our physical body. Let us be grateful that we can make use of our life to benefit the world, love and protect people, and unite people to use their love to help everyone keep a pure heart.”

Pray for the world

The COVID-19 pandemic has been raging for over two years, and the Russian army continues its devastating invasion of Ukraine.

The Buddhist elders and Dharma masters led Tzu Chi volunteers and Buddhists around the world to pray sincerely with one heart:

“May we piously uphold a vegetarian diet, and form good affinities. Let us spread loving kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, and harbor the same mindset, the same wishes, and cultivate ourselves diligently.

“Let us dedicate our merit to a quick end of the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Let us protect our environment and animals, be grateful, and cherish what we have. May the world be in harmony. Peace and happiness to all! “

May everyone encourage one another to do this with sincerest love and our world will be full of harmony and peace.
