Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation

A drama on Da Ai (Great Love) Television changed the life of a woman in Indonesia. It inspired Liao Miao-Rong (廖妙蓉) to devote herself as a volunteer to benefit sentient beings.

Liao, a Tzu Chi volunteer in Indonesia, has devoted 14 years to the Foundation's missions. She joined Tzu Chi after watching the drama on Da Ai TV and has been involved in many aspects of the Foundation’s work, including environmental protection, home visits, medical consultations, and promoting vegetarianism. She hopes to serve with Tzu Chi until her last breath.

What moved her to join was the Da Ai TV drama "Spring Sunshine on Cao Shan"(草山春暉). It describes the story of four brothers of the Gao family who practiced filial piety and performed good deeds; seeing it, she was deeply moved. She decided to join the Tzu Chi volunteer team and found great joy in taking part in environmental protection work.

Liao shared her feelings on recycling: "It is quite interesting. We interact with others while sorting resources, and I feel that, the more we do it, the more meaningful it becomes."

Volunteer Gunawan said, "Every time I talk to her, I find her very humorous and interesting."

During home visits, she saw the hardships of those taking care of their households and felt grateful for her own blessings. As a result, she seizes every opportunity to give back; she is often seen during medical consultations. In addition, her hobby is promoting vegetarianism.

She said: "I am very happy when my fellow volunteers enjoy the vegetarian dishes I cook. It's a feeling of happiness that cannot be bought with money."

She said that Tzu Chi is a group worth dedicating her life to, and that is what she plans to do for the rest of her life.
