
May 13, 2012, was the occasion for a three-fold celebration – Buddha’s Day, Mother’s Day and Tzu Chi Day. In honor of this, the foundation held ceremonies in 34 countries which were attended by over 350,000 people. In her remarks to the morning volunteers’ assembly on May 14, Dharma Master Cheng Yen said that so many people had prayed and made vows with piety and sincerity. “This atmosphere of harmony can bring peace in society and eliminate disasters,” she said.
The first ceremony was held in the Jing Si Hall of Hualien, home of the foundation; it began at 7 a.m. More than 3,600 people participated; their harmonious movements created an atmosphere of peace and dignity.
A similar ceremony was held at the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in the centre of Taipei; it was solemn and dignified. There were many ceremonies abroad. About 15,000 people took part in the event in the Philippines, to pray and give thanks. In total, volunteers in 34 countries held ceremonies; everyone prayed at the same time, bringing together their thoughts and blessings for good.
